Our Manufacturing Engineering program is designed to provide you with a multidisciplinary, broad, and holistic understanding of engineering, focusing on manufacturing technologies and production management. Here’s what you can expect from your undergraduate degree:

Build a Strong Foundation and Explore DIverse Engineering Disciplines

In the Foundation Year, like every UBC Engineering program, you start with a common first year, developing a strong base in Engineering Principles with courses covering essential topics to prepare you for more specialized learning.

As you progress, the Interdisciplinary Approach allows you to delve into topics in Mechanical, Materials, Computer, and Electrical Engineering, broadening your understanding of engineering principles and deepening your knowledge in manufacturing processes, techniques, machinery, and production management.

Hands-On Learning and Capstone Design Projects

In your 2nd and 3rd years, courses provide hands-on experience through project-based learning, guiding you from design to development of products. You'll focus on manufacturing processes, production systems management, and industrial automation, allowing you to learn by doing.

Each year features a design-focused course, culminating in a Capstone Design project in your final year. In your final year, you'll tackle industry-sponsored real-life projects, learning to solve problems, and everything from meeting client expectations to developing products.

Accredited Excellence with Personalized Learning

Our program is the only accredited undergraduate program on the West Coast of Canada that focuses on manufacturing engineering and meets the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board standards, ensuring your degree is recognized for its quality and rigor.

At the same time, you can tailor your manufacturing engineering degree to your interests and career goals by choosing from a range of technical electives and complementary studies, allowing you to find your niche in manufacturing.

Real-World Learning Through Co-op Opportunities

The Manufacturing Engineering program allows you to enrich your degree with invaluable industry experience through the co-op program. Starting in your second year, you can apply for co-op terms extending up to 16 months, providing an exciting opportunity to apply your learning in real-world settings and gain substantial industry exposure.
