The Capstone Design Project is a highlight of program, allowing students to tackle real-world challenges by working with industry partners.

The capstone project not only integrates and applies their engineering knowledge but also helps them develop essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. By creating meaningful products or services, our students gain valuable industry experience and enhance their ability to innovate and lead in their field.

Unlock Diverse Areas of Manufacturing Engineering Through Capstone

Capstone Design Projects offer industry partners and students the chance to tackle a variety of manufacturing engineering challenges. Projects can cover essential areas such as machining, metal processing, heat treating, and forming, as well as advanced topics like polymer processing, injection molding, vacuum thermoforming, and 3D printing.

Students also explore composite material processing, including wet layup and vacuum infusion, and delve into automation and control systems, featuring PLCs and instrumentation.

Projects may focus on production management and planning, integrating these diverse aspects to address real-world problems.

Solving Real-World Challenges

Our Capstone Design Projects tackle pressing industry challenges through collaboration with leading companies. Over the years, the program has engaged with a diverse range of industry partners across various sectors, providing students with exciting projects and valuable learning opportunities.

Partner with Us and Engage with Future Talent

The Manufacturing Engineering Program invites industry partners to propose projects for our Capstone Design Project, creating an exciting opportunity to work with the next generation of engineering talent.

Submit your project idea and receive valuable feedback from a Capstone instructor to refine your proposal. Successful projects are pitched to students in early September, who then rank their top five choices. Teams are formed based on these rankings to ensure an ideal match between students and projects.

From September to April, you’ll collaborate closely with students and faculty to develop innovative solutions. This partnership offers:

  • Low-Cost Exploration: Explore potential R&D and business opportunities with minimal risk.
  • Expert Access: Leverage UBC’s cutting-edge research facilities and the expertise of the Engineering Departments.
  • Recruitment and Networking: Connect with promising graduates and explore recruitment opportunities.
  • Research and Development: Investigate new products or services aligned with your future business goals.

Partners are asked to commit approximately 10 to 15 hours over eight months for meetings, technical support, and project reviews.
